Bring Spring Indoors

For those in the Kitchener area, temperatures may not feel like spring, but your spring blooms tell you that season is in fact here. A great way to enjoy the season is to bring some fresh cut garden blooms indoors. My favourites are tulips, and they will last a long time in water if cared for properly. Be sure to give Daffodils their own vase as their stems release a toxin to other flowers.

Whatever you choose to bring indoors, be sure to cut with pruning sheers or a knife so as not to pinch the stem of the flower. Cut the stem on an angle and remove the lower leaves that will be submerged in the water. Add a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar to the water to keep the flowers fresh longer. Be sure to keep out of direct sunlight and change the water every couple of days, so that no matter the weather is like outdoors, you'll have a touch of spring indoors. Enjoy!
